Care Instructions
CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Preserving the life of your furniture.
At Sovara Living, we design furniture to be lived in and loved. Whether it is the solid timber of a dining table or the premium weave of a sofa, natural materials change over time.
To ensure your pieces maintain their beauty, comfort, and structural integrity for years to come, please follow these care guidelines.
General Maintenance
-
Sunlight: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause fabric fading and timber drying. We recommend using blinds or curtains during peak sun hours.
-
Climate Control: Wood and leather are natural materials that breathe. Avoid placing furniture directly next to heaters, fireplaces, or air conditioning vents to prevent cracking or warping.
-
Moving Furniture: Always lift furniture rather than dragging it, which can damage joints and floor surfaces.
Fabric Upholstery
-
Regular Cleaning: Vacuum weekly using a soft brush attachment and low suction. This prevents dust and grit from settling into the fibres, which can cause premature wear.
-
Spills: Act immediately. Blot spills with a clean, white cloth or paper towel—never rub, as this can push the liquid deeper or damage the fabric pile.
-
Cushion Care: Plump and rotate reversible cushions regularly to ensure even wear and maintain their shape.
-
Pilling: Slight pilling (fuzz balls) may occur on new fabrics. This is a normal characteristic, not a fault, and can be easily removed with a fabric shaver.
Natural Timber & Veneer
-
Daily Care: Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth. For sticky marks, use a tightly wrung damp cloth followed immediately by a dry one.
-
Protection: Always use coasters, placemats, and trivets. Heat, moisture, and rough ceramics can damage the lacquer or oil finish.
-
Polishing: If using a wood polish, ensure it is silicone-free and apply sparingly.
Marble & Natural Stone
-
Acid Sensitivity: Natural stone is porous. Acids such as lemon juice, wine, vinegar, and coffee can "etch" (dull) the surface. Wipe up these spills immediately.
-
Cleaning: Use a mild, pH-neutral cleaner or warm water. Avoid generic household cleaners, bleach, or abrasive scouring pads.
-
Sealing: Your stone comes sealed, but we recommend re-sealing every 6–12 months depending on usage.
Leather
-
Dusting: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth weekly to prevent dust buildup in the grain.
-
Conditioning: Leather can dry out over time. Apply a high-quality leather conditioner every 6–12 months to keep it supple and prevent cracking.
-
Solvents: Never use saddle soap, oils, varnishes, ammonia, or other harsh chemicals.
Glass & Metal
-
Glass: Clean with a non-abrasive glass cleaner and a soft cloth to avoid streaks. Do not place heavy or sharp items directly on glass without felt pads.
-
Metal: Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Avoid steel wool or scouring pads which can scratch plated finishes (like chrome or brass).
Motion Furniture (Recliners)
-
Mechanism Care: To keep the mechanism smooth and quiet, lubricate moving parts every 6–12 months using a silicone-based spray.
-
Tightening: Periodically check that bolts and screws are tight, as they may settle over time with use.
-
Operation: Operate the mechanism gently. Do not force the footrest or backrest, as this can strain the internal frame.
Professional Cleaning
For stubborn stains or a general refresh, we recommend hiring a professional furniture cleaning service. Please inform them of the fabric/material type before they begin.
